GRAPHIC DESIGN

Gibson International

Ngilgi Caves (2022)
This project was made for the Capes Foundation in Australia and involved creating signage and interactive installations for the Ngilgi Cave Ancient Lands Experience. These installations walk the audience through the history of the area and teach them about the local people, plants, animals, and geological formations.

I was a graphic designer on this project. My work involved layout composition and refinement while keeping audience accessibility in mind.
I created a set of illustrations for the project (a set of 6 flower paintings, 2 of which are seen on the photos), however a majority of the assets used were provided from other sources. Some of these were historical photos which needed some colour correction or repair (masking scratches or discoloration), and others were pieces from other artists that i needed to keep unaltered.
Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse (2023-2024)
Another project for the Capes Foundation.
I worked on a majority of the informational graphics (approx. 30 graphics) for the interior of the lighthouse cottages as well as the lookout platform.

Apart from the graphics for print I also worked on two digital interactives - I did animation and motion graphics for both of them. One of them had hand-drawn animated segments, the other was animated in after effects.

The animations below are traced from real drawings.

Te Wharekura (2023)
A project in Auckland.
  •  I set up the graphics to be applied to the wall, laying out, cleaning up and colouring the art provided.
  • I created early iterations of the informational graphics that describe the objects on display.
I have also done internal work for Gibson international, such as RFPs and Portfolios.

Pictured below are the early iterations, including what could have been an alternate design.

Illustration

I primarily do illustration for personal projects, but I have been commissioned several times over the years, including doing a set of illustrations for a children's book.

I tend to gravitate to a cartoony style, but I am capable of drawing in a variety of techniques using both digital and traditional mediums.

Student Work

I studied at Massey University for four years and completed a variety of projects in my time there.

DOWNPOUR

DOWNPOUR is an award winning student film made in collaboration with Tom Starbuck and Duncan Van der Schyff.

I did character design and exploration as well as contributing to writing and directing.
A young woman struggles with the weight of climate change effecting her at every turn and decision in her life. How will she make it through this crisis? Downpour seeks to explain and help facilitate empathy with climate anxiety and how that affects someone's agency in making conscious decisions towards climate change even at the mundane level.

Ugly Things (2021)
20 page comic.
This project was meant to create a fun story-based comic to introduce native insects to children aged approximately 10-12 years old.

The comic follows a native bee named Digger as tries to get home to her burrow, avoiding obstacles and predators along the way. It is intended for both print and digital view, allowing for both interaction with a physical object and wider distribution online. The comic is meant to be a series, allowing for a longer storyline as well as exploring more of New Zealand’s insect biodiversity.

STRAIN (2020)
Promotional elements for a performance based on the music of Warren Maxwell. (collaboration with Tom Starbuck)
Illustrated assets and web layout by me, poster by Tom (compiled from my assets).
Because of the topic and themes of the song we picked, we focused on a high-contrast, grungy and violent aesthetic for this project.

Healthy Body Healthy Mind (2020)

Mock advertisement of an artist conference for a topic of choice.
I decided to focus on mental and physical health, as it's something that I felt could be neglected in the pursuit of art.
